World Car Free Day in Burlington

World Car Free Day in Burlington

Join the Burlington Walk/Bike Council in City Hall Park to celebrate World Car Free Day on September 22nd! This public event will be held from 3:30-5 pm, rain or shine, and will highlight the opportunities available to live car-free in Burlington by walking, biking, and using public transit.

The BWBC and our partners want to provide college students, faculty, and staff - especially those new to the area - with resources and reasons to live car-free in Vermont. Come downtown to learn about why a mostly car-free life is beneficial to yourself, your community, and the environment–– and more accessible than you may think!

Meet on the UVM Campus Green to walk, bike, or jump on transit down to City Hall Park. Join UVM’s Eco-Reps and UVM Bikes Club as we walk, bike, and bus down to City Hall Park from the Waterman building at 3:45!

Free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream will be available to those who participate in the event and there will be a chance to win prizes via a raffle! Prizes include a FitBit, Issue Seven of Sage Magazine, Darn Tough Socks, and Walk to Shop trolleys from Net Zero Vermont!

Participating organizations include Car Share VT, Green Mountain Transit, CATMA, Net Zero Vermont, Local Motion, the UVM Sustainability Office, Sustainable Transportation Vermont, and the Champlain College Transportation Office.

How it Works:

  1. Meet at UVM Campus Green* with your choice of walk, bike and bus groups. Or go on your own!

  2. Arrive at City Hall Park using any mode of sustainable transportation and obtain a punch card.

  3. Check out demos and informational tables on ways to live car-free in Burlington! Get a punch at each table.

  4. Attend at least three tables to qualify for ice cream and prizes.

  5. Get your free Ben and Jerry’s ice cream!

  6. Put your name and contact info on the punch card and drop it in the box for prizes. Winners will be contacted after the event.

  7. Go to your next destination car-free!

*Champlain College meet-up options will be available as well.
