Gina is the former Vermont Agency of Transportation Environmental Policy Manager, serving as VTrans’ representative on the Transportation Climate Initiative Organizing Committee from 2010 - 2016. She lives and works from her home in Craftsbury, Vermont.

Sam is an Environmental Engineering major at the University of Vermont. He is the co-president and treasurer of the Renewable Energy Network, program coordinator for the Outing Club, and hopes to pursue a career in environmental consulting.

Julie is the editor of STVT, an urban designer, land planner and author who writes about urban form and the changing landscape. Her books include Made for Walking and Visualizing Density. Through her practice, Terra Firma Design she helps communities and organizations plan for the future

Mollie serves on the House Transportation Committee of the Vermont State Legislature. She is a member of the Brattleboro Coalition for Active Transportation. An artist and teacher, Mollie is the founder and director of Art in the Neighborhood, an organization that provides tuition-free art classes to children in low-income housing communities.

 

 

Dave is the founder and director of VBike, an advocacy group dedicated to promoting new bicycle technologies and designs to help inspire a shift towards a more transportation-oriented future. He is also an integrative psychotherapist in Brattleboro, specializing in approaches in mind/body modalities and ecopsychology.

Marshall is a transportation planner at the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission. He works to develop transportation studies related to roadways, bridges, intersections, bike/pedestrian facilities and public transit. He also manages the development of the CCRPC’s federally mandated Unified Planning Work Program.

Carolina De Buy Wenniger is a UVM sophomore majoring in Environmental Studies. She’s been researching and writing about topics in sustainability for her internship with STVT. Her favorite modes of transportation are skis and bikes!

Ned has chaired the national Transportation Funders Network and the National Growth Management Leadership Project. He was New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson’s senior advisor for energy, and served five years as a senior official in the Obama Administration working on energy issues. He was executive director of the Vermont Natural Resources Council and most recently worked for two Vermont utilities.

 

Kevin has been a regional planner in Vermont for over 20 years. He is an expert on local zoning, land use planning, floodplains, climate change, and emergency management. Outside of work he is an apple pruner, amateur butcher, ski teacher, and soccer coach.

Bethany is Transportation Program Manager at Vital Communities/Upper Valley Transportation Management Association. She has worked in public health outreach, and as a member of the Town of Hartford Selectboard. She serves on the board of directors for both Advance Transit and Upper Valley CarShare and is a lifelong bike commuter.

Jack graduated from the University of Vermont in 2016 with a degree in Environmental Studies. While finishing his degree, he worked full time on Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign. Since then he has worked in communications, political advocacy and campaign roles. He currently serves on the Burlington City Council, representing Burlington’s East District.

Sammy is the Marketing Director at Old Spokes Home and a UVM student. He is a lifelong bike commuter and a proponent of all things bike-related. He has served as President of the UVM Cycling Team, worked as a professional mechanic, and volunteered as a high school mountain bike coach. Read essays by Sammy

Brendan lives with his wife and two young children in Burlington, where he enjoys getting around by foot, bike, and bus whenever possible. He is a member of the Burlington Public Works Commission, and works in the areas of transportation safety and efficiency as Lead Modeling and Simulation Engineer at The MITRE Corporation.

Wilmot was born and raised on a farm on Irish Hill Road in Shelburne. After serving in the Korean War and a 38-year career in cooperative extension in Connecticut and New York, he returned to the family homestead, which he shares with his daughter and son-in-law.

Emily Jacobsen is a first year studying Environmental Science at UVM. She is interning with STVT and is passionate about finding ways to help people incorporate more sustainable practices into their everyday lives, as well as addressing how this can transform communities-- and the health of our planet-- on a larger scale.

Laura is Old Spokes Home's first executive director as of October 2016. Before joining Old Spokes Home she worked with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) founded by Syrians and Iraqis to respond to the crises in their countries. She is grateful to be back home and part of a local effort to ensure equitable access to clean, active transportation and the opportunities created by such access. Read essays by Laura

Jon has been the Bicycle and Pedestrian Program Manager at VTrans since 2009 and has worked in the program since 2000. His responsibilities include funding and development, policy, technical assistance, safety education, and promotion of bicycling and walking. He has been involved with bicycle and pedestrian planning and design since 1993.

Josh, an Environmental Studies major at UVM, was a fall 2019 intern at STVT. He is a captain of the Men’s Ultimate Frisbee team, and with his passion for creating more sustainable cities, hopes to pursue a career in Urban Planning.

Bruce is a cycling instructor, daily transportation rider and a bicycle tourist at every opportunity. Bruce is interested in the protection of rights of access to our public thoroughfares no matter how we travel or who we are, and improved safety and community relations through education. He lives in Bennington.

He was the State Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator; Director of Advocacy at the Vermont Public Interest Research Group, Vermont Low Income Advocacy Council Advocate. Debra is Executive Director of Net Zero Vermont. She is a change agent, innovator and passionate about sustainable development and transitioning to a low carbon economy. Deb oversees a consulting firm, EcoStrategies, LLC providing government, business, and NGO clients with technical assistance in sustainability, planning, public engagement, transportation efficiency, and renewable energy generation. A long-time legislator, she has served on the House Committee on Natural Resources and Energy, as well as the Joint Energy Committee. Rachel Weed graduated from UVM in Spring 2021 with a degree in Environmental Studies and Sociology. During her last semester at UVM, she interned for Sustainable Transportation Vermont managing their social media accounts. She is passionate about environmental and social justice so is excited to be helping out local newspapers. Outside of work, you can usually find her hiking, swimming, and spending time with friends.

Jane is a UVM student majoring in geography and economics. She is interested in creating sustainable and equitable futures through improving transportation. This semester Jane is working for Net Zero Vermont to create alternatives to car usage and encourage reduced emissions.

Amelia Sherman | Intern (she/her)

Amelia is a Geography major and Political Science minor at the University of Vermont. She is passionate about problem-solving, storytelling, and advocating for more convenient and accessible public transit options. She's a big fan of her bicycle and can sometimes be spotted wobbling around on a unicycle when the weather is nice.

Nathan Greenstein | Intern (he/him)

Nathan is a senior at UVM majoring in Environmental Studies, with a double minor in Community & International Development, and Green Building & Community Design. Last spring Nathan worked with STVT doing advocacy work promoting bike lanes on Colchester Avenue. This semester Nathan will be continuing my advocacy work for sustainable transportation writing for the blog. Nathan is excited to improve sustainable transportation options and make a difference in the community.

 

Raphael Weiner | Intern (he/him)

Raphael is a junior at UVM majoring in Geography and minoring in Classics. Raphael grew up spoiled on public transit in San Francisco, CA, and is learning a lot at UVM about the successes and struggles of sustainable transportation in Burlington and other places.

Sian Hernit

Sian Hernit is a first year Geography major at the University of Vermont, born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. She has a passion for urban design and planning with a focus on creating spaces and communities that prioritize accessibility, sustainability, and wellness. In the fall semester of 2021 she interned with the Commuter Incentive Program through STVT. In her free time she can be found Irish dancing with the Celtic Cats dance team, hanging out at Asian Student Union, or on a bus headed to events around town.

Audrey Cole | Intern

Audrey is a sophomore at the University of Vermont with a major in Environmental Studies and a minor in Community Entrepreneurship. She is from Hingham, Massachusetts. She is passionate about sustainability and environmental justice, wanting to create equal opportunities for everyone to enjoy the outdoors! Outside of school, she is on the lacrosse team at UVM, loves to ski, explore and cook.

Gemma is a first-year Environmental Studies major at the University of Vermont. She grew up outside Washington D.C. in Arlington Virginia, which sparked her love of public transportation and urban planning. She aims to develop sustainable communities that include everyone, even those groups often left out of environmentalism. Outside of school, she enjoys playing ultimate frisbee, spending time with friends, and taking advantage of Burlington’s walkable neighborhoods
